Effective January 1, 2012, paper savings bonds will no longer be available for purchase at any financial institution. This action is part of the Treasury's all-electronic initiative. You'll still be able to purchase Series EE and I bonds, but they must now be purchased through TreasuryDirect®, a secure, web-based system.

With new regulations limiting the amount of money the big banks are able earn for each "swipe" of a debit card, more banks are charging for checking accounts and debit cards to make up for lost income. MSN Money recently published this article about another bank testing debit card fees.
